Corgi Toys 438 Military Ambulance Prototype
Red Cross Military Ambulance by Corgi Toys, based on Corgi 438 Landrover. Pre-production Sample, circa 1964. Original property of Marcel Van Cleemput, Chief Designer for Corgi. From a dedicated collector in The Home Counties. Starting bid £450. Please note that QDT apply 12.5% buyer's commission.
Notes
Sold through QDT several years ago on behalf of an Austrian collector, a personal friend of Marcel. This Military Landrover sample piece was part of the original property of Marcel Van Cleemput.
Based on Corgi 438 Land Rover, this model has a plastic canopy with hand-painted Red Cross details on both sides and on the roof. The Landrover is in hand-painted military green, and the original deep green of the Landrover may be seen, particularly between the headlights and radiator.
This model never went into production, so this is a unique item. (Although it was never issued as a Corgi Toys model, it was developed as a Corgi Juniors model, No. 79 in 1973).
Some wear to the plastic canopy paint finish as well as two small cracks.
