Corgi Toys 277 Monkeemobile
Monkeemobile by Corgi Toys, No.277. Very, very near mint/boxed, with a fresh, vibrant ORIGINAL HEADER CARD.
Notes
Incredibly difficult to find – this colourful detachable header card was given out, we surmise, to just a few of the larger Corgi shops at the time when a retailer box of Monkeemobiles was ordered.
One of only a handful we have ever offered for sale.
The Monkeemobile model was inspired by the t.v. show ‘The Monkees’ and was issued between 1968-72. A superb example with a bright red finish, white roof (notably unblemished – a fine example since often the paint finish on the white roof can tend to be thin), detailed cast wheels and well-shaped tyres. All four figures inside the Monkeemobile!
One of the best examples you will see:
Tiny mark or two visible to the most critical eye.
Crisp, card and cellophane box has original intact cellophane. Fresh and brightly-coloured. Lightest wear includes a little end flap ruffle. Inner is notably tear-free.
Virtually pristine original header card.
An exceptional example throughout.
A Note: There are reproductions of the Monkeemobile Header Card which circulate in the market-place.
How do you tell whether you have a genuine example – or not??
We have seen several real examples over the years and also a fair share of reproductions. The reproductions do not have the same high quality print and often the card is thicker. The lower edge of the card has two semi-circular shaped pieces and with the reproductions these are quite crudely cut.
But the simplest way to tell at a glance? Take a look at Mike Nesmith – the figure with the blue bobble hat on the original header card above – the print colour of the fake is poor and his bobble hat which is blue in the original is black (or blue-black) on the fake! Note too the little logo on one of the semi-circular tabs on one side – never seen on the fake version!
