D981
Dinky 581/981 Horse Box. Near mint/boxed. Scarce dual-numbered transition box. From The Buckinghamshire Collection.
Notes
This horse box has a bright and shining maroon body cast in aluminium, with complete “EXPRESS HORSE BOX HIRE SERVICE” lettering on both sides. Two of the “BRITISH RAILWAYS” signs have a tiny edge nick. 20 mph sign is in place on the hinged rear ramp.
Just a few minor marks to the paint finish.
The striped picture box is the more unusual dual numbered box, so marking the transition from 581 to 981 in 1954.
Clean and strongly-coloured , including the deep blue box base. A couple of little storage scuffs at one side. Traces of a label at a lid end. No graffiti.
