Notes
Earliest issues before individual boxes were assigned for these models – both the early Land-Rovers and matching trailers would have been given out from the trade box by the shopkeeper. First issued during 1950, the mid-green Land-Rovers have a cream interior, the familiar, metal, fawn drivers, black steering wheels and black tinplate screens, early-style bumpers. All are in unused condition, although you will find the occasional little mark (e.g. on the driver’s head), and there is a factory assembly chip on the seat near the location of the spare wheel fixing on one of the Land-Rovers). Occasional little mark besides.
The matching trailers are also in unused condition, although one has a little corrosion to the tin bar beneath the tow ring, and near the rivet, and alongside the Land-Rovers and Trade boxes make quite a dazzling display!
The sturdy yellow card lift-off lid trade boxes are hard to find in this condition.
The colours are strong, the card is undamaged and the trade box of trailers have all the internal card dividers! The Land Rover set has just one divider remaining now. The staples are shiny and the wear to the boxes is minimal – obviously leading one to think that they are simply unsold old shop stock.
A little neat pen writing at one box lid end of the Land Rovers and a stray dot of white paint on the lid. The Trailer box has shopkeeper’s price of 2/- pencilled on the lid.
A little piece of Dinky history that does not come to the market place very often!
