Notes
A most popular and sought-after Gift Set from Corgi, this particular version is the first issue from 1961.
It comprises:
1) Ecurie Ecosse Transporter has a vivid metallic blue finish, shaped spun wheels, lemon interior and a light grey base. Sliding side doors, window glazing and a drop down ramp at the rear. Orange lettering at the sides. Able to ‘transport’ the three racing cars included with this set!
Condition: virtually mint with only a couple of negligible marks if you really look for them. Orange lettering is bright with none of the usual rubbing. Obviously rarely handled and certainly never used.
2) 151a Lotus XI has a bright mid-blue finish, red seats, racing number 3. Driver.
Condition: Shop-fresh condition although (factory fault) peg at one side of the windscreen is not completely secured in its hole. Tiny dot on the racing number stripe. Gleaming bright unused state! Box is pristine and so crisp! Early Corgi Club Membership Form inside.
3) 150S Vanwall in vermillion with racing number 25, driver, flat spun wheels with suspension.
Condition: Mint, although one of the wheels is a little mis-shapen. Box is shop-fresh and difficult to open since it is so crisp! Corgi Club Membership Form is folded inside.
4) 152S B.R.M. model finished in green, racing number 1.
Condition: Mint including the pristine box which also includes Corgi Club Membership Form, printed note from Corgi about the self-adhesive stickers which are also present and unapplied still on the backing sheet.
Important to note that this is not a later made-up set, since these items were all available individually at the time. Obviously this was an unused or unwanted item which has remained in this pristine state for some forty six years.
Lift-off Lid Box is most attractive with bright clean colours and barely any age wear at all. During storage the lid has picked up a scuff, and very minor grubbiness besides. Box inner has bright clean card with no tears and all packing is present. As-new condition again. What a set!
A premium Gift Set in this condition is a joy to own and of course, represents an outstanding investment.
