Notes
Made for a very short time, this is the early version of the black and cream Austin Somerset model.
The very knowledgeable owner informs us:
“The slim rear masking appears to be an early version – perhaps they found it did not produce such a distinct effect at the back. Later variations were, in order, a) to include red rear lights b) then also to mask spray the front and rear number plates c) knobbly tyres”.
This is the sought after two-tone issue made towards the end of the run 1956-59. In authentic and original condition throughout with a pleasing lustre to the paint finish. With the rear light detail. Smooth tyres are well-shaped.
In very near mint state.
None of the usual rubbing to the roof, although there is a tiny amount of bubbling on the roof in one small section (minor, and as-made). Couple of tiny marks to the paint finish.
For comparison only, please take a look at this model on the left when placed alongside the slightly later version with more black paint on the rear section and also note that the cream paint is a slightly lighter shade:
The box is clean and bright. Correct two-tone colour spot. Couple of small flecks of surface loss on one picture face. Minor wear includes a little storage creasing and a little pencilled writing.
A not to be missed opportunity to add this unusual variation to your Dinky collection – we expect very few were made before the change to a deeper black section at the back of the car was made.
