Chilean Dinky Toys 161 Ford Mustang
Ford Mustang by Dinky Toys, No. 161. Chilean silver issue. Excellent/in number specific Chilean card box! So rare to come to the market place. From A Phenomenal Collection.
Notes
Bringing into focus a new seam of Dinky export, we are thrilled to be able to offer these remarkable models for sale. Issued in extremely low numbers at the time, they were assembled and painted in Arica, a duty-free city on the Northern tip of Chile. These exceptionally rare models were discovered by a Dinky collector on a trip to South America. The castings were made in the U.K. and then assembled and painted in Chile. It appears that if the British version came in a perspex box, a numbered/generic Chilean card box was used, otherwise the model came in a standard British card box.
Unlike its British cousin, the Chilean Ford Mustang is finished in silver with a red interior, opening bonnet, boot and doors (note that the passenger door gapes a little.
Black, screwed base and no side decals.
Chrome loss to the front wheels and some marking to the paint finish at some exposed edges. Chip to the opening bonnet rim.
Presented in the authentic, number specific ‘ARMADO EN ARICA’ (Made in Arica) Chilean issue card box with red DINKY TOYS print. Complete, with all end flaps. Some wear and tear.
Especially thrilling to have sight of these hitherto unknown Dinky boxes!
