Notes
Certainly one of the most sought-after Dinky commercial models – notoriously difficult to find in any condition. Few collections can boast a Weetabix van and even fewer in this close to mint, all original condition. This scarce Dinky Guy Van was made for just one year – 1952. In yellow finish with a first type cab and grooved Supertoy wheels. A classic item from Dinky’s heyday. The distinctive transfers are in fine condition throughout:
Just superb! Upon close scrutiny, one will see the odd little pin prick chip at raised bodylines at the sides and at exposed edges, for example, but this is certainly one of the best examples we have seen in a long while. No retouchings at all – always something to be wary of, particularly in the case of such a high profile Dinky as this.
The roof has the occasional tiny dot and a tiny area of light bubbling to the paint finish at the rear (minor):
Rear doors open and close well – and there are thankfully none of the little marks at this site:
Always a good indicator of originality – the base is very fresh with bright shiny axles, baseplate and spare wheel fixing:
What a gem!
If the van is in remarkably fine condition, then the box is even more so! An early blue box with paper label in this condition is a rare find indeed.
The box is really crisp, the colours are so vibrant – the deepest blue with no sunfading or scuffing at corners, the paper label is complete clean and vivid. Just a tiny amount of rust at the staples and a shopkeeper’s period price at one end.
