Notes
The Corgi Car Transporter is a familiar sight to Corgi collectors but this version is anything but familiar and the more you study it, the more unusual it becomes! The first thing you will notice has to be this Temporary Box in all yellow. Markedly different to the usual blue and yellow picture box. But the model itself has interesting and rare features too!
The 1101 Car Transporter was issued between 1957-62 and in 1962 the new version 1105 with the TK cab was introduced. The owner tells us:
“In November 1962, there were still outstanding orders for the cheaper 1101 version for the continent. Rather than have another production run, the new trailer with suspension from the 1105 was matched with a deep red/carmine (not scarlet) Big Bedford Cab and issued in a simple box with an overprinted label. The box for this example is fragile and this is still the best I have seen. It came from Germany and has a November 1962 label.”
Markedly different shade of red, this cab is finished in a deep red shade (carmine) and not the expected scarlet or orange-red shade. Shaped spun wheels. Correct without suspension.
Paired with the mid-blue and very pale green Trailer which would be used for Corgi 1105 (with suspension).
Light marking to the paint finish. Complete Corgi Dog transfer at the rear.
The all-yellow sturdy Temporary Box has a complete label with a simple line drawing of the model and printed details all in black print. Storage and handling wear mostly at edges but no seam tears or repairs. Period date stamp from November 1962 at one side of the box. With card packing piece.
