Notes
Such a scarce set – and the first suspension version of this Gift Set we have handled. This set was issued between 1959-63 (although this suspension version would have been released toward the end of the production run), it comprises:
i) 350 Thunderbird Missile in silver with a red nose cone, on Trailer (RAF Blue finish with black plastic swivelling wheels, black plastic tow ring and metal clips to hold the missile in place). Virtually mint.
ii) 351 Land Rover in RAF Blue finish with suspension on shaped spun wheels, with a lemon interiorm and a plastic tilt, tow hook, well-shaped original tyres and spare on the bonnet. Outstanding lustre. Very close to mint. Note there is a very small edge split to the plastic tilt.
An exceptional find.
Slim outer box is complete and brightly-coloured and correct with the all-important ‘S’ label on end flap. Note there are printed instructions on all small end flaps. Light wear. FAO Schwarz label, New York, on an end flap. Nice to see the packing pieces still, present – a formed piece which secures the models, a long tube which protects the missile and a packing sleeve!
