Dinky Gift Set 149

Dinky factory stamp dates this exciting Gift Set from March 1957, surely at the top of a child’s wish list back in the day – and eagerly sought by collectors now in 2019!
This set comprises:

1)107 Sunbeam Alpine, near mint, stray traces of white paint near the driver figure, crazing to one door transfer and an edge nick. Other door transfer has a couple of tiny edge nibbles. Occasional little mark to the paint.

2) 108 MG Midget, excellent plus, with a few chips to the cream paint finish

3)109 Austin-Healey, near mint, with a few little marks and rough casting on one side

4) 110 Aston-Martin, near mint, with a couple of marks to driver and green paint finish

5) 111 Triumph TR2, very near mint

Each item sits in the slotted light blue inner tray with printed details of each model. Light wear. An attractive presentation – all five vintage Sports Cars make a welcome sight.
The lower half of the box has a small, light part-break to the deep blue paper covering. Light wear. This set has been tucked away, we surmise, for many years and certainly not a later made-up set.
The instantly recognisable striped DINKY TOYS lid with all five cars pictured, has strong crisp colours on intact card. No graffiti unless you count the shopkeeper’s period price (16/3). Some storage grubbiness and light wear. No tears or repairs.

Delighted to see that the nearly always discarded light blue card packing overlay is still present – and in superb condition too!

Relatively few of these Sports Cars sets were made – and only a fraction survive in this complete condition.
