Notes
We are thrilled to bring to the market-place a previously unheard of promotional model of the Corgi 154 JPS Lotus F1.
The owner tells us:
“I feel sure that this JPS model is a Code 1 promotional model similar to the ‘Sadolins’ Formula 1 car in green. I have never seen another. Maybe it is the only survivor in its original box. How many would have been made?
I am 100% sure it is genuine because I bought it at my local fleamarket 6 years ago. It was the only toy amidst crockery, shirts and books etc. The young guy who sold it was selling off old household stuff that used to belong to his parents.
As we had Races on the famous AVUS race track, I am sure it must have been sold as a promo at one of these race events in the 70’s. Recently, I contacted a fellow collector who is a specialist in F1 models. He told me that the Lotus also bore ICI advertising, (they produced the automotive paint), for a German F1 Grand Prix back in the 70’s”.
The JPS Lotus (at first glance) looks like the standard issue finished in gloss black with gleaming gold trim, and the driver with a black helmet behind the wheel. Note however the AVUS label at the rear (tiny back edge wear) and the ‘ICI’ label at the front.
The distinctive card box in black and silver has a tear and a couple of part-punctures. Light wear besides.
The model continues to intrigue us – we would welcome any information from collectors.
