Notes
This Fab 1 model has an unmistakably vibrant fluorescent pink finish, gold interior, 2nd type wheels and pink sliding roof detail. Jewelled headlights. FAB 1 numberplate front and rear (rather creased now). Both figures of Lady Penelope and Parker are seated inside.
A few minor marks particularly on the vulnerable front bumper edge and close inspection will find a few small touch-ins mostly confined to one raised side detail.
The tall card plinth is complete with excellent fresh colours. Composed of quite thin card, these plinths are especially prone to wear. This example has survived better than the majority we have seen and is tear-free.
The clear plastic bubble lid is original and this version is made of especially thin and fragile plastic. Still pliant, this lid has just one very small tear to the bubble at the lower edge.
Yellow missile as well as four red harpoons included. Remains of the original tape visible on the card plinth.
Information kindly supplied by Andy Wakeford (collector):
“This pack style dates from 1972 following Airfix’s acquisition of the UK arm of Meccano from the receivers of the Lines Brothers (Triang) Group which has gone into liquidation in 1971. Airfix debuted a new logo for UK Dinky Toys (the chunky square-lettered one) and from 1972 started to use the then radically-different bubble pack. There were two styles – a ‘tall’ style used for all models apart from aeroplanes and heavy trucks. The packs for these were in fact the fore-runners of the later more common bubble pack with the more robust folded card base, albeit with a white platform top”.
