Notes
Issued during 1969 with a black-faced Golly, this is the second issue where the colour was changed to a lighter grey colour, in response to racial concerns. Later still, the Golly would have a pink or light tan face and then eventually be replaced with the uncontroversial Mr.Tubby!
Purchased by The Old School Collector at The Lösch Auction Germany, where many of Marcel Van Cleemput’s items were sold is the letter sent form Corgi to their suppliers in Hong Kong detailing this move due to racial concerns. Dated 1969 – this is the copy sent to Marcel Van Cleemput. A unique piece of Corgi history and referenced in The Great Book of Corgi on page 241.
This model itself is in virtually perfect condition. A most attractive item, with all three figures of Noddy, Big Ears and Golly crammed into a bright red and yellow ‘cartoon’ car with balloon tyres! Shiny wheels and well-shaped balloon tyres.
Paintwork is vivid and in tip-top condition. Few tiny chrome marks.
Early window box is dated 1969 on the reverse. Card is clean, bright and complete. Feels as if it has been opened rarely. Fine, crisp and clean inner card stand. Original cellophane has a small tear (as is so often the case).
