Notes
A little piece of Corgi and indeed motoring – history combined. We are thrilled to bring to market this unique pairing.
Issued between 1961-65, this is the first issue example with black plastic wheels and complete crossed Union Jack flags at the nose.
In original condition throughout with a pleasing lustre. A little rear edge scuff – this model is happily free of the usual top surface chips to the high points. Small casting mark.
Slim, crisp card box has bright colours and shows barely any wear at all. Obviously rarely handled – it has retained its crisp, silky feel. Resistant end flaps too.
This letter is the actual example pictured in The Great Book of Corgi on page 91. It is addressed to Marcel Van Cleemput (Chief Designer for Corgi) in 1960 and includes a small chip of the paint from Donald Campbell’s Bluebird. Great lengths to get this Corgi model true to life!
It is apparent in this letter, however, that a lighter and brighter shade of blue should be decided upon – and that is exactly what came to pass.
A wonderful investment piece for the Corgi and racing car collector. A great talking point in your collection.
