Corgi 261
Corgi 261 James Bond's Aston Martin D.B.5. Near mint plus/boxed (early style). With a full Secret Instruction Packet. A rare find WITHOUT silver details. From a lifelong collection in London.
Notes
An early issue – and we surmise the earliest issue perhaps before silver details were added to these models? Or simply a factory over-sight? Hard to know. However, this model presents extremely well with this most intense gold colour finish, and so ‘undiluted’ without the silver details at radiators, headlight, rear numberplate and bumpers.
In all original condition with none of the reproduction accessories, rife with this issue.
The car is fully functioning, complete with both figures. Suspension on wire wheels. Original tyres are well-shaped. Pleasing, original gold finish on the bullet screen too (often found with this finish quite worn).
The early issue plinth (without arrow) on which the model sits is bright and complete.
Just a couple of tiny wheel slot tears.
The Instruction Packet has been opened (rather creased with handling wear now), and inside there are the all important Secret Instructions which detail the retractable machine guns, opening roof and ejector seat, rear bullet screen and telescopic over-riders. All have been tested and work well. The packet also contains the unapplied 007 badge which is still affixed to the backing sheet. Inside the packet, too, there is the spare villain figure, in case the first one goes astray.
The outer box is the early style – without the shading detail around the lettering ASTON MARTIN DB5 on the box face (later examples would have this) or the thick black border around the JAMES BOND’S lettering. A little handling wear.
A piece of Corgi history and a nostalgic treat which is hard to resist!
