FD552
French Dinky 552 Chevrolet Corvair. Metallic silver-grey version. Rare SOUTH AFRICAN issue in the correct Arthur E. Harris box. Very near mint/boxed. From The East Netherlands Collection.
Notes
Rare to come to the market place, this is one of the fabled South African French Dinky models finished in metallic silver-grey with a detailed ivory interior and shining concave wheels with suspension. Clean, well-shaped tyres. Bright baseplate.
In very close to mint condition, with just a little casting mark on the roof and a stray micro-dot of (factory) red paint toward the front of the bonnet. Details like the rear lights were hand-applied at the factory.
The correct South African box is an especially difficult find. An even more elusive find in this condition! Vibrant sharp colours on crisp card, complete with all end flaps and no repairs. Small end flap has a little tear. Note the correct Afrikaans printed on the box on one face and the tiny print Arthur E. Harris (sole distributor), ?Printed in South Africa? on the box underside. ‘Assembled in the Republic of South Africa for MECCANO LTD.’ printed on the top surface.
A stunning investment piece, these South African models are always eagerly sought by Dinky specialist collectors.
