Notes

A rare, early Gift Set, the first we have handled. This set is in authentic original condition and is so often the case with these pre-war Dinky models, there is some fatigue to the 2 trailers, due to the instability of the alloys used at this time. Issued between 1935-37, and presented in a very fine and colourful original card box (one of the finest you will ever find), and complete with the original inner, this set comprises:

a) 33a Mechanical Horse in red with silver trim. Smooth wheels (minor crazing). Sound with correct original tyres which run well. No fatigue. Very good.

b) 33b Flat Truck in original green, with minor distortion and fatigue due to unstable alloys used at this time. Smooth wheels. With original tyres which run well. Good.

c) 33c Open Wagon in cobalt blue, with fatigue, including a ‘pop’ and a little chunk missing now. Smooth wheels. With original white tyres which run well. Fair.

d) 33d Box Van in green with complete ‘MECCANO ENGINEERING FOR BOYS’. One of the little ‘loops’ which holds the axle in place is missing now. Smooth wheels (minor crazing). Original tyres run easily. Very good.

e) 33e Dust Wagon in yellow and blue with tinplate top (opening hatch). Sound with smooth wheels. Original tyres run easily. Very good.

f) 33f Petrol Tank in green with red tinplate top. Smooth wheels (minor crazing). Sound, although axles turn with difficulty now. Well-shaped original tyres. Very good.

Each item (and we believe the originals from this set, so not a later ‘made up’ set), sits within the slotted bright deep yellow card inner.

The remarkably well-preserved outer lift-off lid card box is a delight! Vibrant colours on intact card; clean and fresh-looking, and surely one of the best surviving examples. Minor age wear/rubbing only. Hard to believe it is close to eighty years old.
