D502
Dinky 502 Foden Flat Truck. Very near mint/boxed. Scarce 2nd type issue in burnt orange and green. With export label. From 1954. From a large, stunning diverse collection with many items in old shop stock condition.
Notes
From one of the largest, private collections we have ever seen, with many items bought new at the time and stored away until now. Taken as a whole, the collection provides an exciting, kaleidoscopic snapshot of popular diecast toys issued during the 1960?s -1970?s.
In all original condition, this rare colour version was issued from 1952-54. 2nd type has a distinctive burnt orange finish, mid-green back, matching Supertoy wheels and fine tread original grey radial tyres. Tank slits and chain post bosses. Shiny and fresh original paint finish so this example displays extremely well. Not even the usual chip at the tow hook. Exceptional!
20 mph transfer is still in place. Shiny metal parts including axle ends. Well-shaped original tyres including the spare.
Critical scrutiny will find a small mark at a wheel arch (only one!) and a the occasional minuscule rub at the flat bed edge.
This model stands up to minute scrutiny, too – so often these ‘wonderful’ Fodens have subtle skilful retouches – but not this one! Gives the impression of unsold, old shop stock.
The vibrant, dark blue picture box shows the second type cab variation. It has bright strong colours throughout, and no splits. Paper label is quite clean, bright and complete. Minor age/handling wear. Period shop label at a lid end. Note the shopkeeper was most insistent that this was a 902 model. Probably a 1954 issue – the year when the 502 model was re-numbered 902. Export issue – note the complete and bright ‘Hudson Dobson’ label at one lid side.
