D240
Dinky 240 Cooper Racing Car. In rare 'Chilean' red, blue engine cowl. Bold print, Chilean racing number 7 labels. Very near mint/boxed. Exceptionally rare Chilean version. The first time these models, hitherto largely unknown, have come to the market place.
Notes
Bringing into focus a new seam of Dinky export, we are thrilled to be able to offer these remarkable models for sale. Issued in extremely low numbers at the time, they were assembled and painted in Arica, a duty-free city on the Northern tip of Chile. These exceptionally rare models were discovered by a Dinky collector on a trip to South America. The castings were made in the U.K. and then assembled and painted in Chile. It appears that if the British version came in a perspex box, a numbered/generic Chilean card box was used, otherwise the model came in a standard British card box.
Standard British issue would be mid-blue with racing number 20, this is a most distinctive example finished in carmine red, with very bold print racing number ‘7’ paper labels (specific to this Chilean issue) . Blue engine cowl. Shaped spun wheels with suspension. Fine tread, well-shaped original tyres. White driver with silver helmet. Intact original screen. Red engine bay. Chilean rivets.
Stray flick of extra factory silver immediately above the radiator. Little rubbed area on the base. Minor mark or two besides.
Rather curiously, this example is presented in an ‘altered by hand’ 242 Ferrari box. Couple of little end flap tears and minor wear besides.
The original owner asserts that this model was bought new in this box!
