D161
Dinky 161 Austin Somerset Saloon. Scarce cream & black issue. Near mint/boxed. From a private collection of Dinky and Corgi models, mostly purchased during the early 1980's at U.K. auction houses.
Notes
This is the sought after late two-tone issue made towards the end of the run 1956-59. Presents well with a wonderful lustre to the paint finish.
Occasional little mark at an exposed edge and minute scrutiny reveals a couple of (factory) sweeps of cream paint (immediately below the windscreen and below the rear screen). Not typical places for chipping, so we suspect the paint finish must have been rather thin in these places. Smooth original tyres run well.
The box is clean, fresh and bright. Correct colour spot at the end flaps. Shopkeeper’s period price at an end flap. Minor handling wear and a little storage edge crumple.
