An exciting and rare find!
In October 1963, the Rover Motor Company commissioned a small quantity of plated cars to coincide with the launch and to give away to VIPs, including press and export distributors.
This is one of the original models with a chrome-plated finish, still mounted on its presentation cigarette case made of wood with a ‘marble’ lift-off lid, and ‘leather’ base. The underside of the lid has a smaller ‘marble’ section with the original label ROVER 2000 TAKES MOTORING YEARS AHEAD’ still in place:
No cigarettes inside the box now. The model is in close to mint condition with a few little rubs on the roof (please note that the photos emphasise these little blemishes).
A wonderful talking point in your collection. Very few have to come to light, although there is an example on display in The National Heritage Museum in Gaydon, Warwickshire.
